After being presented with the need for more space in the district due to increased enrollment, the community showed its support by approving a $11.14 million referendum last April. The project scope is for work at John Long Middle School that includes an eight classroom addition, cafeteria remodeling and expansion, and repurposing of areas for science and special education learning spaces. The addition will provide the space needed to move fifth grade from the two elementary schools to the middle school. This will immediately assist with accommodating the current student population at Kennedy and Woodview, as well as providing spaces for any future growth that would require more classrooms at specific grade levels. A groundbreaking celebration was held on October 21, and construction work is currently underway. New construction will take place throughout the 2024-25 school year, and remodeling of current spaces will commence once school is out in June 2025. The project will be complete and ready for the fifth grade to join JLMS for the 2025-26 school year.
